02On foot to the summit cross
From the top station, a groomed winter hiking trail leads up to the summit cross at 1,768 metres. On clear days, you can see more than 150 Alpine peaks from the top.
If you’d like to go snowshoeing away from the groomed trails, you’ll find information on avalanche conditions and wildlife protection zones on the High-Altitude Trail page.
03Tobogganing on the Kleinberg
Filzmoos has a natural toboggan run on the Kleinberg. All you need for tobogganing is an uphill ride on the Grossbergbahn, which is covered by the single-ride tickets for pedestrians and tobogganers. At the top station of the Grossbergbahn, the Kleinbergalm awaits: a Canadian log cabin where you can also enquire about toboggan evenings.
04The meeting point: huts for everyone
The Schörgialm is right at the top station of the Papagenobahn, at around 1,600 metres. The skiers swing in for a break between two runs on the Rossbrand, you arrive by gondola, and on the sun terrace you’re all back at one table. In winter, the hut is open daily from 9:00 to 17:00.
You can also reach the Kleinbergalm, a Canadian log cabin, without skis: it’s at the top station of the Grossbergbahn, which also offers single rides. Which other huts the skiers head for along the way is covered in our overview of skiing in Filzmoos.
05Or maybe cross-country skiing on the High-Altitude Trail
Up on the Rossbrand lies the High-Altitude Trail; its longest loop is 16 kilometres long, for skating and classic style. There are shorter loops of 2 and 5 kilometres, all with only 30 to 50 metres of elevation gain.
What a cross-country day looks like, from the gondola to the hut stop, is covered in our article on cross-country skiing in Filzmoos.
06Above it all: a balloon ride
A balloon ride over Filzmoos fills a whole morning. Meet at 8:00 at the launch meadow in Filzmoos; take-off is at 9:00. You’re in the air for around two hours, climbing to over 3,000 metres, with a balloon baptism and certificate. Afterwards, the chase vehicle brings you back.
Enquiries and bookings go directly through the provider; you’ll find the details on our balloon rides page.
